HELLO THERE, DEMOCRACY BEER !
It started in 2006, the series of events. No one really wants to be underground for the sake of the glossy tag. Well, some people might want that too if they have a handsome financial backing of some big fish to promote his/her underground shit. In the month of December, Anamitra was arrested with Ayan for pasting posters on Rabindra Sadan's wall. It was a campaign for a little magazine arranged convention on three politically significant issues --- land acquisition, the so called development and industrialization, state repression. It was the last evening of a government sponsored Kabita Utsab (Poetry Festival). They conducted a leaflet campaigning too opposing the state-sponsored festivals of state sponsored art before their arrest. Byas, 2007 published by Anamitra, Snigdhendu and Debarghya came out in the Next February. The cover was designed by Sankha Subhra. Finally we could publish the issue after 2 years of announcing it. Between, that was first experience for us to be blacklisted, to be tagged and to be reduced to the tag. Anamitra was tagged as a Maoist literary worker after the arrest. In 2007, after publishing the Magazine in Kolkata Book Fair and selling 75% of the total number of copies, some unknown gang started tearing our posters regularly pasted on Indian Coffeehouse’s walls. The book stores kept on reporting that our copies are not getting sales while the interested readers reported that the issue is not available anymore at the stores.
